Trying to make the grade on "HSM"

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. Hoping to hard cash in even further on the tween-fueled phenomenon that is Disney's "High School Musical," ABC is airing "High School Musical: Get in the Picture," a new realism competition show hosted by Nick Lachey.

Six talent scouts cryptically dubbed "The Faculty" scoured the country for nearly three months. Out of the thousands of squealing fans (ages 16-22) who auditioned, only 12 will be selected to attend a summer medicine program where they'll get word how to hone their singing, dancing and playacting skills. Or, in other words, how to become a potency Disney johnny Cash cow.

The success will lead in his or her own music video that'll play during the end credits of "HSM3," which is scheduled to be released in theaters in October. That person will also incur a talent deal with ABC and a recording contract for two singles with Walt Disney Records.

Unlike every other reality competition show, no one is sent boxing on "Get in the Picture." Instead of getting booted, the contestants stay on the show and join the chorus ... literally.
